ESPN Reporter Is Rude

http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/16/us/espn-reporter-britt-mchenry-tirade/index.html

Recently, an ESPN reporter, Britt HcHenry, was at a towing company because her car was towed. Because of this, she began to berate the worker that was servicing her. Even after the worker informed her that she was being recorder, she continued her harsh tirade, going so far as to personally attack the clerk for her weight, intelligence, and her place of work. Because the video of this incident went viral, she was suspended by ESPN. She has Tweeted that she feels bad about what happened, and that, "[she] allowed [her] emotions get the best of [her]."

No matter what, you should always be kind and respectful to everybody, especially if you're famous and on TV. People like her are held to a higher standard of acting because they represent the company they work for and that company is well-known. Her actions are doubly bad because the clerk was kind enough to tell her that she was being recorded, which gave her an opportunity to get her head on right and realize that her actions have consequences. Overall, I think that it's a good thing that she was suspended. I can't stand it when people are rude to people for things that they can't help, especially their class. She made a poor choice and now she has to live with the consequences.

Skutt Controversy

http://www.ketv.com/news/online-petition-seeks-to-keep-skutt-catholic-speech-coach/32237826

This article describes the recent controversy surrounding Skutt Catholic's decision not to renew a teacher's contract because he told them about his gay relationship. A petition was started by an assistant speech coach to get Skutt to renew his contract.

Honestly, I'm pretty disappointed by Omaha and Skutt Catholic's stance on this. I like to think of Omaha as a progressive, welcoming community. However, whenever something like this comes up, it is very evident that it is not entirely this way. Catholics generally promote love and acceptance, but sometimes it doesn't really seem this way, especially when it comes to gay people and whether or not they should be able to marry.

As a Catholic, I think gay people should be able to marry, at least legally, because the government should be completely separate from religion in any way. But, the thing is, this petition is pretty much pointless. Skutt is a private school, which means that it can refuse to renew a person's contract for any reason they see fit. The government can't really interfere because they are a separate entity from the government. While the petition raises awareness to the issue here in Omaha, I don't think that the petition will do a whole lot for him and his career at Skutt Catholic.

Underage Drinking Made Safer

http://www.omaha.com/news/legislature/senators-pass-bill-granting-mip-immunity-to-underage-drinkers-seeking/article_e32e9ddc-4e2c-57e3-9497-d8963616577a.html

Basically, if a person who is underage will be given immunity if they seek medical attention. The people who are given immunity are the person who needs the medical attention and the person who calls for help. Authorities can still charge people for other crimes that are related to it, though. Things like supplying alcohol to minors or using a fake ID. This is to try to reduce the deaths that are caused by alcohol.

Personally, I think that this is a great idea to make the city better. Kids are going to drink underage whether you like it or not and doing this will take away some reason to not to seek medical help. However, this might have some negative effects. For example, kids may start to think that since they have a way of getting away with it, they don't need to worry about getting caught, which might make them drink more. Despite that, passing the bill was a good decision, one that will probably save many lives. I'm glad that it was passed. Even though it doesn't affect me at all, it makes my city a better place, which makes me happy. I love Omaha and I'm glad the local government is good at figuring out ways to make it better.

Introducing Myself

I am a 15-year-old student at Creighton Prep. I was born on May 12, 1999 and am the middle child of 5, with two older brother who went to Prep and two younger sisters. Most of my heritage is Bohemian and Norwegian, but I have many ancestors from other nations.

I like movies, books, music, and sports.

My favorite movie is Galaxy Quest. I don't like it because I think it's the best movie I've seen, but because I grew up with it. It came out the year I was born and my parents like it, so they got the DVD. I watched the movie every day for a few months.

My favorite books are the Harry Potter Series. I like these because they're great books and because I grew up reading them.

My favorite band is Queen and my favorite song is Under Pressure. Queen, to me, is probably the greatest band that ever existed. They were each, individually inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for songs they wrote that became top hits and they are one of the most prolific bands of the 70's and 80's. But I like many kinds of music: Classic Rock, Rock, Metal, Rap, Hip Hop, and Pop. I absolutely hate Country, though.

My favorite sport is soccer. I like this sport because I grew up with it and played every position at one point or another. My favorite position, though, is keeper. This sport demands a mix of athleticism, strategy, quick-thinking, and decision-making. That is why it is the greatest sport in the world. It is also the most popular sport in the world. I run cross country as well.

My favorite TV show is Scrubs. I love this show because of its ability to perfectly mix comedy and drama into one, perfect show. It is also considered the most accurate doctor show on TV, which makes it even better.
